Hurricane is rewarded with an ‘animal OBE’
Marco says: I didn’t know a dog could be awarded an OBE!
Hurricane is a US Secret Service dog, and has received an award popularly known as the 'animal OBE' for his courage in stopping an intruder in the White House in 2014.
Hurricane, who’s a Belgian Malinois, is now 10 years old. He was on duty on October 22nd 2014 and leapt into action when a man jumped over the White House fence and sprinted towards the area where President Obama and his family were . Hurricane held the attacker down despite a savage attack. In recognition of his courage, he received an Order of Merit medal from animal charity PDSA - making him the first overseas recipient of the award.
Hurricane’s handler is Officer Marshall Mirarchi, who is now his adoptive owner, as Hurricane retired in 2016.
Here’s Hurricane having fun after the ceremony on Wednesday 2nd October! So well done – he deserves the fun.
