Marco says: I did enjoy the rock and flowers in the Rock Garden at Southsea.
There was a leaflet that helped J identify the plants – she does love to do that. I just did a little pee on one. But the verbascum – tall with yellow saucer-shaped flowers were very pretty.
J says: The Rock Gardens celebrated their 90th birthday last year. They were built by gangs of unskilled workmen as part of a government ‘Back to Work’ scheme following the First World War – when botanical gardens were all the rage. But then they were neglected for many years. The Friends of Southsea Rock Gardens are the team which gives up their own time to meet each week and tend to the gardens’ needs.
We want to say ‘thanks’ to Bruce and the Friends of Southsea Rock Garden for such hard work.
